EB Electron beam welding
SDMS masters all the welding processes (Electron Beam Welding, TIG,
MIG, plasma, vacuum brazing, submerged arc, etc.) of all metals.
Electron-beam welding machine (electronic bombardment)
SDMS has an electron-beam welding installation with a power
of 60 kW and a chamber of 37mé equipped with 4 CNC axes.
The Electron beam welding machine is equipped with a 15 kw external gun and a
cylindrical welding chamber out of steel of 1 200 mm diameter and 4300 mm
length. This machine allows to weld thicknesses up to 20 mm of stainless steel.
Longitudinal and circular electron-beam welding in a single run (thickness
of 32 mm) at 70 cm/min (material: 304L steel). Shrinkage is less than 0.5
mm.
SDMS participates in the maintenance programme of French nuclear power
plants, by manufacturing RRA units.
The engineers of SDMS largely used electron beam welding and developed processes of automatic welding TIG with CNC : the orbital welding heads were remote-controlled by a miniature camera and an endoscope, thus making it possible for the welders to make immediate corrections and to record the data (penetration, speed, intensity, positions, etc.). This heavy water vessel is rather similar to that of the RHF (Franco-German neutron reactor of the Laue Langevin Institute of Grenoble).
SDMS (french nuclear metal working SME of the area of Grenoble) employs a hundred people, and is the leading french manufacturer of vacuum and ultra-high vacuum vessels.
SDMS was recently highlighted in gaining the contract to study and supply for the catwalks of scientific exploration of the Chauvet cave in Ardeche (paintings of 32000 years old).
Vacuum welding enables one to obtain an excellent metallurgical quality
in the welds. This is necessary in certain high-tech applications, such
as particle accelerators.
