Vacuum and ultra high vacuum (UHV) fabrications
Ultra high vacuum UHV fabrications are carried out in clean rooms of
10 000 or 100 000 class.

Thus,
vacuum and ultrahigh vacuum vessels can be made of copper or copper
alloy using EB welding, with minimum deformation after welding, and thus
comply with strict dimensional tolerances.

Dry (recommended for ultra high vacuum)
Aluminium from weldable families is very hard to machine when dry (particularly
the AG3 and AG5 family 5000): the chips stick to the tool and cause metal
to be torn off (this is true to a lesser extent for
stainless steel).
In an ultra high vacuum vessel (UHV vessels), welding must be in TIG
on the vacuum side in AC using argon as a protective gas or an argon/helium
mixture for large thicknesses or penetrations. The filling runs can be
made in MIG from the outside...
